Electrical Installation
New wiring, rewiring of older properties, earthing and residual current protection.
The consumer unit is the safety centre of the whole installation. Older boards with ceramic fuses were never designed for the appliance loads of a modern property, and carry both fire and shock risk. We replace them to current standards, then split and label the circuits before handing over.
Boards with rewireable ceramic fuses were never designed for modern appliance loads, and it is extremely common to find the wrong gauge of wire fitted after one blows. At that point the fuse no longer protects anything and the cable can keep heating without tripping. A modern board with circuit breakers is safer and far easier to live with.
An RCD is standard on new installations and is the single most effective protection against electric shock. Older installations often have none at all. We recommend one in any building with wet areas.
A standard flat consumer unit is usually a half-day job. Main boards for businesses and apartment buildings take longer because circuits have to be separated and labelled; we confirm timing after the survey.
